IMVU Discussions changed for a bit better

Post by Elaini » Thu Apr 12, 2018 11:23 am

It resembles the old forums a bit more but there's bit more work to be done to have it polished perfect. They now have:
  • Wider post area
  • Up to down post order
  • Add/remove text formatting (no colors)
  • Add image (upload only)
  • Mention people and groups
However, they still don't yet have:
  • Anchored links
  • Page numbering
  • BBcode
In either case, a step to the right direction this time.

However do notice that if you had links to the older forum format in Discussions, they will take you to the old forum format. You would have to pick and update the new links to redirect people to the new format.

Here's a few links for a comparison:

Oh that looks much better! Thank you for posting about it here, Elaini. I logged in to Imvu website to check things out and got a blank page from their discussions link in the drop down menu. Via your link is the only way I could see the discussions just now. :)
Maybe they'll fix that, who knows. lol

The re-done format really does look more usable/readable now. I guess I'll have to actually load the client in order to tell them that. (haven't logged in in ages)

Thanks Elaini! I haven't looked at that thing for ages, still looks awful to me though. I won't be using it.

It still has problems yes.

I've made a thread there with frequently posted comments about how IMVU should go back to how it was and continue improving those features.

IMVU, Get Back To Your Roots – Part II

I have been fighting for us there... well have tried to.

Well I upvoted you if that helps (no idea what that does lol). :)

I did find it hilarious though that all those wankers who spammed their way up the silly leaderboard will have to start all over again!

Looks like they also have polls we can create now, but you should go to your Discussions profile to find that option instead of doing it while creating a thread.

Stickies are an actual option that staff has mentioned but I won't believe it until they actually create it.

Just a few more updates:

Topics can now be pinned (stickied)
Pictures can be embedded or attached
Check it out here https://help.imvu.com/s/topic/0TO410000 ... sts-events

Tutorials are being added also... it would be great to see more creators posting them.
  • Images are no longer limited to 500x500 pixels
  • large previews are shown and click to a full size image
  • images are no longer linked to other web pages or sites hosting third party. So no worries with Photobucket
  • Images are uploaded directly to the Discussion topic.
Anyone who has tutorials in the legacy forums are encouraged to post them in discussions. (or... even if you don't have any in legacy forums feel free to post!)
A list of Texture tutorials will be pinned in a post at the top of the Creator Textures Category.

I'd like to know where we can have discussions within the Discussions.

Do you mean a place to be social aside from asking for help?
  • The "Creator Discussions" are described as...
"This forum is for Content Creators and those interested in the Creator Program. It is a place for sharing skills and knowledge, building networks, and developing a true sense of community within the Creator Program. Bugs, general questions, and feedback about Create Mode and the Creator Program belong here."

If you want to talk about something other than IMVU

Is there something you are looking for that is not here?

There were a few categories we had in the legacy forums that were not carried over. I'm not sure we will ever get back things like AP only. That seems to be the biggest question when it comes to discussion categories that are missed.

I would really like to engage in discussions and conversations. We need to re-build our community.

Sadly, I don't believe that will ever happen while IMVU uses that format. It is neither welcoming nor user friendly, no matter how much glitter is sprinkled over it.

I have been told that we have to be offsite to discuss issues.

Stupid.

One would think IMVU would want to know what we are thinking and grow from new knowledge.

One would think they would want to squash rumors by participation.

This hiresnobg crap is a prime example. The fact that we can't educate users on why it is a bad thing and not someone being greedy is beyond me.

I posted on a youtube video - and can't post within IMVU - about IMVU.

Now that things have calmed down on IMVU in regards to *hiresnobg... and the bullying and personal threats are not being posted so much.... they reopened the topic and I could not agree more with your comments there Notorious.

There are a few things I have typed up that I wanted to post but after cooling down and re-reading my thoughts I realized they would come off as baiting so I'm glad you asked the questions in a better way.

I'm still not sure what the legit purposes are for models, modeling agencies or editors using *hiresnobg in the shop. If creators have to pay (VIP) to become creators now and every product has to be paid for to be derived and submitted in the catalog I'm not sure why "editors" feel they should not have to pay to use them.

Hopefully this and the Mentoring thread you have been posting in are more of what you were looking for when you said "I'd like to know where we can have discussions within the Discussions."

The discussions would work better with staff participation. UNFORTUNATELY they are cuppycakes and afraid to think for themselves. Gone are the days when staff was in the trenches with us and making IMVU better with us. Now it's a full on battle.
