New Product Announcements?

Post by NickalisciousNick » Tue Mar 14, 2017 9:14 am

I would like to see a separate post for all you creative Creators to announce your newest products. Please include links and photo's too.

This might be a good opportunity to announce a sale, special offers or highlight some older products for upcoming events or holidays.

It must be a matter of semantics. As a user/buyer, I look for words like "new products", but the creators say "Creator Showroom or catalog." Even though I have been here over 4 years, I am not a creator and more familiar with word used in retail. When I see the words Creator Showcase, I think it's exclusive for creators only and I was not inclined to click on it. I'm not in that creator frame of mind. Now that I know better, I will search it out.

However, I wonder how many other users think the same way I do? It took me a while to figure out what the heck a "client" was. So you might want to think about what and how to attract more buyers to your products. Sometimes we need to be directed or bopped over the head to get to your catalog. So maybe keep it simple and use words like "new products" or "special sale" to get our attention.

What also gets my attention are New Holiday Products! I'm always looking for something new to decorate my rooms or a new product to gift. I think there should be a thread to highlight that too.

I will be doing a sticky thread each time a Major Season or Holiday rolls around for folks to share their goodies. (Just unstuck St Patrick Day and Added Spring.)

I haven't done any latest threads hoping each creator will bump their own showcase thread when they have something new.

I can look at the wording to make it more clear. Any feedback on that front is greatly appreciated. 8-)

Thanks for the reply. I did look at Creators Showrooms and some of you have some really nice new and existing products. But I think there is room for improvement to help your sales. Some of you posted a link to your catalog and many have over 15 pages to look at. To be honest, it gets tiresome and time consuming looking at hundreds of products. Plus, I'm a guy and I'm not that interested in looking at hair and dresses. After three pages of dresses, I will close the page.

Help us buyers find your products faster by including keywords. You might have a wonderful set of furniture buried deep in your catalog that I might be interested to buy, but if I don't know that, I won't ever find it. Give us keywords to search with, such as shoes, a 50's skirt, furry outfits or styles like medieval, vampire, emo, goth, etc. These are just a few examples. By using keywords, we can search those words and find your products much faster.

I've only just started a thread here - I haven't had one for my products before so I'm just kinda posting a few things from different categories for now. (it takes me a while to get around to it) I do use keywords for the catalog search when I submit the products, do you mean we should link keywords to specific products here? (like...link the search? or what?) What would you suggest?

Like I said I'm kinda just linking a few icons right now when I can but I'm sure there is a better way. :)

If you are just providing a link to your catalog, a list of keywords underneath it would be helpful. That way I can type in those keywords and find your products.

A good example is DarkAngel5. She has an enormous catalog with thousands of products. I usually search her catty by using common words like Christmas, Easter, Halloween, etc. to find things. But I don't know what other specialty items she might have designed.. Having a searchable list of keywords makes us more aware of the contents of your catalog.

Ah ok. I see what you are saying now. :) Thanks for that.

My catalog isn't that big but I can see how that would become an issue with large catalogs with a lot of stuff in each category.

I understand what you are trying to put across Nick but putting keywords for every product shown on a forum is not really going to narrow your search unless it is a specialised item such as something seasonal, if someone is displaying a couch and it's just for instance a "Black, Cosy, couch" that will bring up all of the items with them tags which still could be hundreds if the dev is a furniture creator, when looking at someone's shop on the web there are filters on the left hand side to narrow your search, firstly choosing if it is clothing or a room/furniture, these are often a far better way of cutting out all the clutter you don't want to see than typing in specific key words unless the keywords are seasonal or a specific name. I do however think you make a great point about keywords on threads such as the NEW PRODUCTS as opposed to Creator Showroom, I agree...for us that create we would know instantly that that is the place we host our shop but for shoppers it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.
I know you don't create yourself but maybe you should consider setting yourself up as an adviser, giving the creators a buyers perspective on things to help us all improve our advertisement :)

@Twiddy

I like many of your comments and I also looked at your catalog. You have many wonderful products, but when I get to your first page, where do I begin my search? If I look to the left of the page, IMVU breaks it into two categories - Clothing (1135 products) and Furniture (432 products). Since there are no good sub categories, that's a lot to search through. At least on the Client you can search under Men, Poses, Furniture, etc.

I think you should treat your catalog like a Department Store. When you enter a large store, each department is sectioned off by category. To get to the department you use the stores directory/map to find the area or floor you want to go to. We need search words or additional categories as a directory to your catalog.

When I looked at your catty, I noticed you had products for men. When I type in the word "men", nothing comes up. When I type in "male", 5 pages of products come up. Searching through 5 pages is a lot easier than 40, plus they are products I am interested in. By the way, I noticed you had sweaters for men, but some of them don't come up when you type in "male". That's something to look at.

For the women, I noticed you sell gowns, dresses, furry outfits and hair. I think those are some of the keywords you might want to list.

For furniture, I also noticed you have some wonderful "poseless" furniture. I buy poseless furniture and saw a few things I might buy in the future.

IMVU does not make it easy to find your products. I think this is an opportunity for creators to gain more control of what you want to promote and sell. It's free advertising, so why not use it to your advantage?

I get more of what you mean now, Nick, all I can say to that is when we fill out the publish product form there is a space to add tags to our product, this is limited to 12 words but it makes a huge difference to how easily something is found, I would never have thought to use "men" instead of male and don't generally add the gender of a product either because it is stated at mesh stage unless I then alter it to be unisex and then I would add M/F to the description, it is however very hard to always add everything we want due to the restrictions imposed by IMVU on characters and words. There are however sub categories on the web shop, for instance if you choose clothing it will ask male or female, you then have a drop down list of tops, bottoms, shoes, so on and so forth, this narrows your search enormously and then you can add your tag word in the search box to filter some more, I am unsure how else this could be made easier.

This is why I think people make multiple accounts for their purposes; it makes it easier to search and navigate the webpage catalogues.

I usually add words that describe what the item is, but I'm only limited by my vocabulary and my point of view.
For what I make, I have about 2-3 words I use to describe my catalogue, "furry" being an example.
Then I usually describle what animal it is, if it is an animal, and try to include another way of saying it. "Horse, equine"
I include the colours, and if there are a lot, I try to limit to the main or "popular" ones. "Red, purple, rainbow"
I may also include pattern-type. "stripes, spots"

By this point I'm pretty limited on what else I can say. I also include the type of the item, but I do that in the title, as well as the set's name, or the products name.

This is how I do mine as well, I try to use all my keywords, & people may not notice that there are drop down menus as well once you've entered the search terms, we are limited too but what IMVU allows us, for instance; we can't control when or how the categories show in our cat's either, that's completely decided by IMVU... ;) =^.^=
