Help! My Product Got Re-Rated. INFO THREAD

Post by admin » Sun Mar 05, 2017 12:15 am

This is not a be-all end-all list, and as always IMVU’s Customer Service (CS) has the final say on what is what. The hope here is to at least give you some help in the confusing and vague world of product re-ratings.

  • First know, Most product re-ratings happen for a valid reason.

Yes, from time to time CS screws it up, but that is the exception to the rule.

You may get a bunch of re-rates all at once and think someone ‘has it in for you’, and hey, maybe they do, but when that happens it normally is because someone reported a bunch of stuff, and that stuff was indeed ALL incorrectly rated.
  • When a product is re-rated all profits made from any sales are taken from your account. Yep, that’s right, so it’s best to know IMVU’s Content Guidelines BEFORE you start creating.

If you are one of those people that just scrolled though the rules text without reading it, you may want to stop reading this and go read their Virtual Goods Policy (VGP) now. I said NOW!

  • Top reason for a re-rate on IMVU, Failure of the product to meet the Minimum Coverage Guidelines.

If your product is clothing go ahead and open it up in Create Mode.

    -Go to the Config Tab
-Click Apply Minimum Coverage Guideline Skin
-Click Apply Minimum Coverage Guideline Pose

If you see ANY red, anywhere, on any layer... even just one pixel, your product is AP
  • Other Notable reasons:

Sex or the illusion of it: If that’s your game, not that there’s anything wrong with that, then IMVU is not the place for you. There are other social networks that allow for, even cater too, that kind of virtual lifestyle. IMVU does not want it on their site.

Sexualizing of a product in its marketing. If you make it look like your avie is doing ‘sexy time’ things in your product's icon or product page graphics, regardless of what the product itself is, your product will be re-rated or removed.

Inappropriate Keywords. Words used as your Keywords have to match the product’s ratings level.

Hate Speech: Images and logos that are commonly associated with hate groups are not allowed on IMVU.

Violence, Blood, Gore: This is one of those really grey areas. When does some blood become gore? Are guns and knives violent or dress up role play? It’s all a confusing mess.

Happiness in your pants. (or out of them) Guys can be relaxed with a limit on size AP, but don’t get excited or that is UFI!
Hope that helps, there are other reasons, so be sure to read the VGP a few times. If you have a concern you can always open a help ticket with Customer Service and ask.
No matter where you go, there you are...

(Not sure if I'm supposed to reply here or start a new topic.)
So, I derived a version of Lucille from TWD from Keodi, and I made two versions, one where she is 'thirsty' and one where she is 'drunk'.
Well, the drunk one of course has blood and what MAY be bits of flesh, hair etc. in the barbed wire, so, should I rate the bloody ones as AP?
I looked at some of the other derives and saw other bloody ones there, but I'm not one to rely on what the herd does.
Thanks!

The general rule used to be that blood was okay for GA but if it was animated or looked animated in any way then it became AP. Gore was more subjective and would have been nothing more than very cartoony if at all to stay as GA.

Nowadays though it's as Keef said, a very grey area. Staff members are not consistent in applying the rules, some of them don't even know the rules. IMVU have picked animated blood products as GA competition winners and re-rated the most innocuous item citing it as gore.

If you want to play GA safe then I'd say static blood only and no gore at all, you "should" be okay then!

Thanks. I don't see a ton of blood and gore in my catalog's future so that seems like solid advice.

I still have an AP rated teddy bear with blood on its heart. :(
