I been watching several unwrapping tutorials, for old and new versions of max and Cant find how the unwrap in straight lines with no distortion on the mesh.

As you know, I know nothing about Max but with my program, for a trouser leg, I'd tend to use cylinder with a touch of manual vert dragging. :geek:

hi Zara.. is not to make the mesh itself.
what I would to know is when she unwrap the pants ,she (or he) make the edges of the wire map in a straight line without distorting the texture flow on the mesh. ( I use Text tools for this but does not work good with clothing)
I Think is pelt.
to a degree I know I can moved vertices on the uvw map on some meshes but on a mesh with curds , the texture get distorted.
the wire map is from this pants.

not even the imvu , which the avatar is little flat shape is that straight.

Ah, I see what you mean about the straight edges. I might be being stupid but I just assumed those straight edges were deliberately built into the mesh itself as an in-line row of vertices. That would result in no distortion there.

I've often modified a boot mesh or similar to have such a straight join just to make the UV map easier to unwrap/use/paint.

Idk? :?

If you look at part 2 unwrapping video near the end he shows an example of straightening mesh with pelt, and relax. Not sure if
that's will help you but worth a try.

Part 2 here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fwsAZ1 ... I4Ve3SfZBC

part 1 just easy unwrap for beginners

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-zev89 ... C&index=36

And all his teaching videos here

thanks for the video links, I never try relax that high, when I do it, I get the same wire map I already have.
I mean, my wire map is good , no distortions, making a bottom / short but the edges of the wire map never get straight.
maybe is my Pc , that I need a faster Cpu.
this is what I am trying to make with straight lines.

I don't texture much , I think my way look hard to make texture for this mesh, but I am going to leave it this way for now.. still have to figure the skinning on the bodysuit..

I made a quick and dirty mesh by chopping up the weighting avatar and added straight seams at the sides. I mapped it using cylinder.

I think it came out pretty good lol. The stretching that is there is quite similar to how real life material would stretch.

Image Image

The front could probably use a little horizontal manual dragging of verts to even it up a little, but this was done real quick, cylinder and nothing else. It could be improved even more by adding a seam down the middle instead of the sides like the sis3D mesh is laid out.

It gives you the maps you want!

I'm not telling you to do it my way, I just wanted to illustrate what I was talking about earlier.

Thanks Zara. I wish could do it your way.
I try but cant make it work applying cylinder, I tough maybe because I split and modify this mesh several times, it was very hard to reset it and be able to apply cylinder, the squares on the mesh look ok, but the wire map is all over like twisted everywhere.
so I was thinking to make a new body mesh .
then I try to do the same with the imvu mesh, same thing .
no matter what I do , I cant make it work like you did.
I haven't play with max for several months , a least nothing complex .
max don't do what I want it to do ..or I forgot how to unwraps , so I watch like 6 hours of unwrapping videos yesterday , still nothing that I already don't know how to do.
no sure if is me or my Pc too old to make max work like it suppose to ..:(
I never try to make a wire map this way before.

so after re installing / fixing max and with the help of 2 max scripts ( Tex tools) I got this.

no perfect but way better than before.
